Some of you may remember Anna Elgby.  In 2010, she came as one of Bonita’s first interns in Haiti. Her caring, sensitive heart and earnest love for the Lord made an impact on the Plateau that lasts until this day.

(You can read a little about the impression she left here.)

Just before Christmas 2012, Anna was killed in a car accident.  As one way to celebrate her giving spirit and the place Haiti held in her heart, family and friends gave to a special fund in her memory.

One small way in which these funds are being used is to paint the Lemuel bus in her honor.  Haiti has a tradition of brightly painted buses and taxis, many of them with a special name or phrase.  Ours is named “Anna.”

What most of you probably do not know is that Bonita’s current intern, Rachel Fulmore, grew up with Anna in Pakistan.  They had remained friends even after both their families left Pakistan, and it was due to the impact Haiti had in Anna’s life that Rachel began to consider doing an internship here.  So, there has been a very meaningful layer to Rachel’s presence here at this time and to her ability to participate in painting the bus in Anna’s memory.

On the side of the bus is part of a favorite verse of Anna’s, and one that was true of her life, as well:

“For to me, to live is Christ…”

What a dear girl and wonderful example Anna was…à real tribute to her Lord. I can imagine what a comfort it is to her parents to know that she is in the presence of Jesus, and it it only a question of time……
