This morning, as the temperatures climbed, Jinel called to tell me he was coming to get me! Usually it was Manis who would take me out, but not this time. Jinel has been part of our staff for several years now. Manis wanted a chance to work closer with him, and put him in charge of a work project!
23 people from 23 families were invited to come and work for $4 US a day plus a cooked meal. When I got to the work area I was amazed. Starting from the main road they have been clearing away those nasty thorn bushes, weeds, and rocks. Leaning down, I started to grab some of the weeds and pulled. I asked the lady beside me if Satan was happy with what they were doing. She looked at me and said, “No”. When I asked her why, and she didn’t really know what to say. Then she said, “He wants things to stay the way they are.”
Most of the 23 people working today have actively served Satan their whole life. That is all they have known. Last week, Manis and I went to this area and were shocked with how poor the conditions were. So what compels us to make a change? Is it the great need we see around us? Is it because we don’t want people to suffer? This morning I saw hearts that desperately need hear about Jesus. How will they hear? How will they know?
Heading back, Jinel showed me the rest of the land they want to clean up. We talked about how great it was to develop this land, but if that was all we were doing, then what makes us any different than any other development agency.
We want to see the work here advance, but more than that we want to see lives changed for Christ. This work is not easy and we do need your prayers for wisdom, strength and courage to move forward in a way that will honor and glorify God.
